His disciples accompany Him every step of the way as He preaches about God's kingdom, that is, God's reign on Earth. Like a small seed that will later bear fruit, this kingdom has already begun, even if it's not yet visible to everyone. Jesus validates His teaching by healing the sick and casting out demons, making it absolutely clear that God is at work. However, even though many are fascinated, envy grows among the religious elite. From the middle of the Gospel onward, the setting shifts from the countryside to Jerusalem. Jesus tells His disciples that He will suffer and die for them, and that He will rise again after three days. The culmination of His ministry lies not in outward successes, but in His death on the cross. Here it becomes clear that Jesus gives His entire life for others. And after three days, Jesus rises from the dead…and not long after, He ascends into Heaven, where He continues to work to this day.
