The prophet is a very colourful character – he had his ups and downs, victory and defeat, and knew both the depths of depression and the power of God. He was used during an extremely difficult time in Israel's history to oppose the wicked king Ahab and bring revival. But what was the real issue between Ahab and God's people? The question was: who is the king of the fridge – who runs the economy and ultimately gives us food?

    Are you sure that God cares for you on a daily basis? The conflict between God and Baal is about who is really feeding the people – and God calls a faithful man, Elijah ('my God is the Lord'), to speak for Him. God feeds Elijah through a raven, and there is a deep spiritual lesson in that. Whatever your situation – a hopeless marriage, financial ruin, bullying at work – God wants to tell you: I care about you, so much more than about ravens.

    Do you have things – idols – in your life that rob you of your enjoyment of Christ? In this video we look at the face-off between Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. The underlying question remains: who gives the rain and rules the heavens – Baal the weather-god, or Jehovah the Saviour of Israel? In order to restore Israel, God first needs to defeat their idols. Today we face exactly the same battle.

    THE DEPRESSED PROPHET | The Prophet Elijah Story | Part 4

    Do you feel like you had your greatest victory, but are still down? Right after Elijah's great triumph over the prophets of Baal came his most embarrassing defeat: fleeing in fear from Jezebel, he sinks into what we would call depression and asks God to let him die. But God has much more in store. He cares for His servant, restores him, and shows him that he is not the only faithful one left. God truly cares for His people – our duty is to stay faithful.
